Big data growth is expected to explode in size and complexity. As these data sets grow, more bandwidth, storage and management tools are needed. Network managers should consider using data deduplication and WAN bandwidth optimization tools to reduce the amount of data traversing the network -- not only between branch offices and headquarters, but between headquarters and mobile workers on corporate smartphones and tablets.

This leads to our next 2012 trend: The consumerization of IT and mobility.
